The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP)
has decided to fully utilize the large network of over 10,000 commercial banks
branches all over the country, and all field offices of SBP Banking Services
Corporation (BSC) for distribution of fresh currency notes to the general
public during the holy month of Ramazan 2013.
To facilitate the general public, certain
commercial bank branches in selected cities have been designated as express
centers, to freely issue fresh notes in abundance, where a representative of State
Bank of Pakistan would also be present to ensure maximum, efficient and
transparent disbursement. Issuance of fresh currency notes from these
designated branches will commence w.e.f. 24th July, 2013, and will
continue till last working day before Eid-ul-Fitr.
General public visiting SBP BSC
offices / designated branches for obtaining fresh banknotes must ensure
availability of National Identity Card / Smart Identity Card with them.
The SBP BSC has made elaborate
arrangements for the supply of adequate quantity of fresh currency notes
particularly of small denominations to commercial banks depending upon their
branch network.
SBP BSC offices across the country have
started issuance of fresh notes from their counters w.e.f. 12th July,
2013, and will continue to issue fresh currency notes till the last working day
before Eid-ul-Fitr, while the branches of commercial banks / MFBs will also issue
packets of Rs.10/-, Rs.20 & Rs.
50/- to visiting general public / account holders / Corporate Clients.
In order to resolve public grievances,
if any, in obtaining fresh currency notes from commercial banks, the SBP BSC
has established a Help Desk which may be contacted at the telephone number
021-32455470. Complaints may also be
lodged at the email address: freshnotes@sbp.org.pk or with the Chief
Spokesperson (Acting) State Bank of Pakistan at his email address: umar.siddique@sbp.org.pk
The SBP BSC has put in place a mechanism
for penalizing the banks found violating SBP instructions with regards to
issuance of fresh currency notes to the general public.
It may be mentioned here that SBP
BSC has issued over Rs 48 billion fresh currency notes of various denominations
till July 19, 2013.
