Mobilink’s employee
volunteers collecting non-food relief items across Pakistan
Karachi: November 7, 2013 – Mobilink Foundation and its Torchbearers
(employee volunteers) have initiated a collection drive for non-food items as
the second phase of relief operations for Awaraan, Baluchistan.
The
onset of winter has created an urgent need for warm clothing, blankets and
temporary shelter for families who have lost their homes and livelihoods in the
disaster. In late October, Mobilink Foundation had sent one consignment of
waterproof material to Awaraan. Mobilink Torchbearers (employee volunteers)
have now set up relief camps at Mobilink offices across Pakistan, that are
collecting clothing, bed sheets, blankets, kitchen utensils, curtains and floor
mats. Mobilink Foundation has also made arrangements with the Pakistan Army to
ensure that the collected material is transported and distributed in the affected
regions.
Omar
Manzur, Head of Corporate Communications, Mobilink highlighted, “The situation
in Baluchistan is grave with the lack of
shelter and basic necessities being a serious cause for concern. Mobilink
Foundation and its Torchbearers continue to work together to ensure we can help
our fellow Pakistanis in their time of need.”
Mobilink
Foundation was the first from the corporate sector to mobilize relief for
earthquake affectees. This initiative began with the delivery of water supplies
in the week after the disaster. This was followed by the delivery of food
supplies in collaboration with the Government of Baluchistan to distribute food
assistance in various relief camps in the vicinity of Awaraan and surrounding
areas.
