Karachi, August 28: Gems and
Jewellery Training and Manufacturing Centers operating under the
leadership of Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC)
has over the past five years trained 8,525 students through 571 training
programs in its five training centers. These well trained and skilled
work force had a very significant role to play in value addition and
value added exports and in achieving exports of USD 1.2 billion from
approximately US$ 47 million in 2006-2007 to US$ 1.2 billion, said
Bakhtiar Khan – CEO PGJDC in a statement issued here on Tuesday.
He
further added that students were trained in the field of gemstone
mining, gemstone identification, gemstone processing, jewellery
designing and jewellery manufacturing. He said PGJDC endeavors for the
development of Gems & Jewellery industry of the country from Mine to
Market and to enhance its competitiveness internationally by
facilitation, technology up-gradation, skill development, quality
assurance and marketing/branding.
Mr.
Khan further explained that, “the market dynamics all around the world
are changing rapidly and in order to keep up with the international
markets PGJDC is adopting the latest trends and techniques for marketing
and promotion of Pakistani Gems & Jewellery products worldwide.”
Apart
from training, one of the major initiatives of the company was to
organize Pakistan’s biggest Gems and Jewellery Exhibition i.e Pakistan
International Gems and Jewellery Exhibition (PIGJE) in June 2012 at
Pearl Continental Hotel, Karachi. The event was visited by 40
international delegates and also encompassed a seminar wherein world
renowned experts participated as speakers including vice president,
International Colored Gem Stone Association (ICA).
Continuing
on the success of PIGJE 2012 and to make it an annual international
event, Mr. Bakhtiar Khan had announced in a grand press conference in
this June that the company is organizing the 2nd edition of PIGJE in
September 2013. The mega event will be held at Pearl Continental Hotel,
Karachi, Pakistan from 26th – 29th September, 2013.
Providing
further details about the Exhibition he explained that, “the four-day
event will showcase Pakistani Gems and Jewellery products in all their
vivacity for international dealers, and will also provide international
dealers with a platform to explore the potential of Pakistani market.”
PIGJE
being an international exhibition will provide great business
development opportunities to local and international dealers associated
with Gems & Jewellery trade. The event will be specially designed to
provide a facilitating environment to promote B2B trade. A one day
seminar will also be organized during the course of the event and local
as well as speakers from abroad will give talks on very important
topics.
Answering
to a question about the number of booths and international
participation he responded that’ “there will be a total of 82 booths in
the exhibition”. He said that, “marketing department of the company is
in negotiations with a few international machinery and tools
manufactures and the details of international and local participation
will soon be shared with the press and media.”
