The State Bank Museum
& Art Gallery, Karachi will now remain open for public on Saturdays and
Sundays also from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm from 31st August, 2013. However, the Museum will remain closed on
Fridays.
Museum was inaugurated
on 1st July, 2011. Museum timings were as per the office timings of
the Bank, but due to high public demand State Bank of Pakistan has decided to
open it on Saturdays and Sundays.
The State Bank Museum
is the first Museum of Pakistan which exclusively covers evolution of money
& banking, history of coinage, currency notes besides central banking and monetary
systems of South Asia, etc.
The Museum has eight
galleries, displaying history of State Bank, pre-Islamic & Islamic coinage,
Pakistan’s currency & coinage, stamps, coin minting, currency note printing
machines.
The mezzanine floor of
the Museum is dedicated to renowned artist, Sadequain where three huge murals
and fine metal collages by Sadequain, specially done for the State Bank of
Pakistan are on display.
All the galleries have
educational interactive kiosks for the students as well visitors, plus a mini
theatre where one can see documentaries related to currency, coinage and
Sadequain. Entry is free for public.
