Apple Reportedly Working on LTE-A Support for Next iPhone

South Korea's SK Telecom has held talks with Apple to develop a smartphone that will be compatible with its LTE-A network.
The new handset is expected to be announced within the next few months, the Korea Times reported, citing an SK Telecom executive.
Apple is generally expected to announce a new smartphone in a few months anyway, and could add LTE-A capability into a model for the Korean market, and other countries that launch LTE-A services. Qualcomm is already offering LTE-A capable chipsets.
"SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations," said the SK Telecom executive, requesting anonymity.
SK Telecom is aiming to have at least seven LTE-A capable devices by the end of this year. It is currently offering the Samsung Galaxy S4, in a modified version that will work on the higher speed network.
The move by Apple to support LTE-A so early in its deployment would be a sharp change for the company, which had traditionally been slower on the uptake for mobile download speed capabilities.
